问题详情:

amilyretu...Omar Samra was born in London to Egyptian parents. The family returned to Egypt when Omar was just a few months old. Samra was very sick when he was a little child. A doctor told him that he could become healthier, only if he kept exercising. So he began running, and then boating and playing basketball. However, he found it difficult to keep them up and none of those worked. Later, he soon fell in love with mountaineering, which finally helped him beat the illness.

The first time he tried mountaineering was at the age of 16 at a summer camp in Switzerland. “It was my first time walking in snow,” he says. “The whole mountain world was new to me, but strangely I felt that I belonged there.”

In 2007, Omar Samra decided to climb Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest mountain. When he was 7,300m up Qomolangma, he discovered the dead mountaineer.

"It was early in the morning, and one person from another team went ahead of us. When we got close to him we realized that he died about 10 to 15 minutes before," he says.

More than 250 people had died trying to climb Qomolangma, because of accidents or illness caused by the high altitude and low temperatures.

Yet he wasn’t struck down by fear. “I was so scared that I couldn't move," he says. Finally able to calm down, and knowing that nothing could be done for the man, Mr Samra and his group continued their ascent to the mountain top.

A few days later, on 17 May 2007, Mr Samra, aged 28 at the time, became the first Egyptian who went to the top of Qomolangma.

The dream he had held for 12 years came true. This made him believe that through hard work and beating his fears, a person can achieve whatever he wants, and reach anything he sets his mind to.
