  “Howarethingsbackattheoffice?”oneofthegentlemeninmybi...

“How are things back at the office?” one of the gentlemen in my bicycle tour group asked me as we were nearing the end of another long ride through Croatia’s beautiful countryside.

“I think they are going fine,” I said. “I haven’t had any contact and I don’t plan to.” “Your cell phone isn’t on?” he asked, incredulously (不相信地). “You haven’t checked your e-mails?” “My phone is off and no, I’m not planning on checking e-mails,” I said.

My wife Heidi and I took our children, Daniel and Rachel, on a two-week trip to Croatia, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We made a decision to spend all the time with each other.

In order to share this wonderful experience, I tried to take us all out of the busy world that we live in. If I had my cell phone on and was constantly searching out a wireless connection to keep up with the office, I would just bring that busy world into this peaceful, meaningful world I was trying to create.

To my surprise, another wonderful thing happened as a result of this bicycle tour. As we were returning home, I was flooded with new ideas.  I came up with several thoughts that I want to use in my business. I felt I had received an unexpected bonus(额外的收获). While it wasn’t the goal of the trip, I was rewarded with fresh insights(感悟), ones that would never occur to me during the regular course of business.

Taking time off rejuvenated (使恢复活力)me and allowed my creative spirit to come to the surface.  Vacations make us happy, give us time to be together with our families and make us feel rejuvenated and inspired. Just leave cell phone off and you laptop behind.
