 LeonieMulleriswritingherpaperonthenomadic(流浪的)life,and...

Leonie Muller is writing her paper on the nomadic(流浪的) life, and while doing it, she’s living on a train. But she’s not just riding the train for research purpose. The 23-year-old German student pays only $180 a month and lives out of her backpack.

Of course there are disadvantages to this style of living. Using only public toilets and showers would become tiring after a while. And living out of a bag surely lack the comforts of home.

But the advantages are huge. Not only does Muller get to see the countryside, but Germany’s rail network travels to the far corners of the country and makes frequent stops in all the cities, so she’s able to see friends and family regularly. Her most frequent travels have been between Berlin, her boyfriend’s place in Cologne, and her university at Tubingen.

Plus, Germany’s trains run on time. So Muller doesn’t have to worry too much about arriving late for a meeting with a friend or getting stuck on the train for longer than she was expecting. And also, the Wi-Fi on the trains is excellent and free.y  It’s not for everyone, but I’m one traveler who finds this idea fantastic. Could I do it in the United States?

I did some research and found out that there are 30-day passes(乘车券)on Amtrak(美国铁路公司), with a $689 pass, a bit of planning and staying with family or friends for a few nights, you might be able to do a full month of travel, spending much of it on the Amtrak trains and the rest with the generous people you know. Even figuring in two or three nights at inexpensive hotels, that’s still cheaper than the rent.
